We have been lied to by our parents, our schools, our religious leaders, and our government. In some cases, (like in the case of our parents) they did not mean to lie to us, because they themselves have been lied to, so they simply repeated the lie. They thought they were helping us, but they are trapped in error, and their errors have unfortunately trapped us as well. The biggest lie they have told us, the Satanic lie of all lies which has been with us for millenia, is that human beings are weak, fragile, and cursed by a God who is involved in an eternal war with evil. This is the lie called dualism, which claims that there are two equal powers in the universe, a good power, which we call God, and an evil power, which we call Satan. These two powers are claimed to be involved in an endless, eternal war in the heavens, and this war has made its way onto our earth as a result of the Biblical fall of Adam and Eve. As a result of this fall, each human being is cursed at birth to be a participant in this war, whether they like it or not, and fated to choose either the so-called "good" side, or God, and the so-called "bad" side, or Satan. Depending on which side you choose, or are pre-destined to choose as some theologians would say, God and Satan each give rewards to their faithful human soldiers who fight for them in this material realm. For example, Satan is said to be the "Prince of this World" and as such he rewards his followers with earthly possessions, power, and money. God, on the other hand, often allows his faithful ones to suffer greatly at the hands of Satan's followers, in order, we are told, to test his followers faithfulness, and reward them with something greater. This reward is called heaven, a magical realm which a "good" person goes to after death and is rewarded by God with anything their heart desires. In both cases, the Gods portrayed are Autocratic Kings who will tolerate no dissent, no mistakes, and expect their followers to remain faithful to be considered as "worthy" of the rewards they will give. This theology is most clearly expressed today in the theology of Fundamentalist Christianity and Islam. Ultimately, fundamentalist Christianity and Islam believe that God will eventually triumph over Satan and his wicked followers in a display of divine fury so horrible that the earth will run with the blood of the wicked and the good, and the Earth itself Will be swallowed up in disasters both natural and man-made. However the faithful ones, the ones who fought, suffered, and endured misery for God in this life, or who believed the "right: creeds and were members of the "right" religion, will be rewarded by being "raptured" or removed from the carnage that this God of vengeance will wreak on his enemies. Finally, God will cast Satan and his wicked followers into a Lake of Fire and Brimstone, where they will be tortured for all eternity, and the faithful of God will get to see them being tortured mercilessly for their personal pleasure, apparently as a reward for having endured great misery in this life. And the most disturbing aspect of this theology is those who hold faithfully to it will tell you that God is Love.
There are so many problems with this theology that one barely knows where to begin commenting on it. However, that is not the aim of this particular essay. The purpose of this essay is to expose the lie of dualism, and offer the truth; a truth which God in his mercy, love, and compassion has revealed to me over the past year. You see, I have been trapped in the lie of dualism for my whole life. I believed I was following God, and I suppose I was, but it was a God of my own making, a God I wanted to please by forcing myself to be perfect, but I never could. One day, I realized that it was impossible to please this God because such a God does not exist, and the belief in this God was what was causing me to fail so miserably, and give into temptation. And here is the truth I discovered in the midst of my misery: human beings are not weak, fragile, cursed and doomed to a life of war, disease, global destruction, and finally eternal punishment. Human beings are, in fact, intimately connected to the infinite life of God, and this connection makes each of us potential heirs to the infinite and unlimited life and power of God. All we have to do is to realize it, and put it into practice in our lives, most notably through prayer and meditation. We believe we are weak, powerless, and doomed to suffer and die because that is what we have been taught, and this error expresses itself in our life because what we believe becomes real. The more we believe it to be true, the more real it becomes for us. However, once the lie is revealed, the truth sets you free. The truth can be expressed in this simple statement which is so self-evident I wonder how I could have missed it: Evil is not real. Evil is a part of our experience because we give it power by believing it will make us happy, and give us good things. For example, people kill out of desire for power, revenge, money, things which are perceived to be good and can be acquired and taken by force, if necessary. Nations engage in this type of behavior all the time, (note the phantom called the War on Terror, which is so clear a proof of this truth as to be funny. How can you fight a war against an emotion?). No one commits an evil act for the sake of desiring to be evil, that is absurd. Therefore, the only true reality is God, and God is Infinite Perfection, Good, Love, Joy, Happiness, etc. Evil is a phantom, an illusion, and this perceived war between good and evil is also a phantom, a mirage, a ghost of the mind. As Jesus said, we shall know the truth, and the truth will set us free. The true battlefield is in the mind, and once that is changed anything is possible. The power of God that we are connected to is so great, Jesus said that faith in this power as small as a mustard seed can give a human being the power to move a mountain by command. However, because we believe we are small, weak, limited, sinful, and doomed to die, we do not believe Jesus when he says this, even though he and his true followers throughout the ages have demonstrated this truth for all to see. No perceived limitation could stop Jesus, not disease, social and economic status, even death. He overcame everyone of them, and told us we could do the same if we only believe.
There are many scriptures which support this truth, which is why the churches have attempted to control the scriptures, or leave people ignorant to its symbolic meaning and trapped in a hopeless fundamentalism. However, The Creation Story of Genesis Chapter One expresses this truth clearly and beautifully, once one has the knowledge necessary to see it and understand it. Specifically the following passage expresses it with full clarity:
Genesis 1:26 (New International Version)
26 Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, [a] and over all the creatures that move along the ground."
This passage explains the true nature of humanity, what we were created for, and the life that God planned for us all to live in this planet. It also gives us hints about the nature and purposes of the divine. However, many people either have never read this passage, or fully understood it, or simply do not believe it is true. Often, this is because most people get caught up in a literal debate over the contents of the story. especially the fundamentalist and the atheist, who only see the literal word and therefore fail to understand its symbolic meaning. In order for the passage to be understood, it cannot be taken literally, because its true meaning will always be missed. However, the symbols are easy to understand if you look with spiritual eyes, and they reveal a God who has empowered all of humanity with his spirit, enabling us to live as Kings and Queens on earth.
In the entire text of Genesis Chapter One, we see that God speaks and creation is formed exactly as it was spoken. We know from experience that humans also can speak and certain things become real, like a leader giving a command. Is it then our ability to speak that distinguishes us as made in the divine image? Yes, but it is much more than this. Because before a word can be spoken, it has to be conceived of in the mind and consciousness of an individual. And, before something can be created, it must first be imagined and planned again, in the mind and consciousness of a person. Therefore, if we are a reflection or image of God, and we have mind, consciousness, speech and creativity, we can conclude God has to be infinite mind, infinite intention, infinite consciousness. We are the image of God because we contain spirit in the form of mind and consciousness, but it is an aspect of the divine mind, a flicker of the divine flame. It is not ours to command alone, because our mind is a reflection of the divine mind; our consciousness and creative faculty must obeys certain rules and laws, and cannot exist fully without a rooted connection to God. God is the source, and this source is infinite.
This is the source of our great power, the Power of the Spirit. We have heard a lot lately about the law of attraction, and there is great truth here as far as it goes. However, the law of attraction only works if it is rooted and connected to the Law Giver, the Creator, who established the law of attraction to reward the righteous (right thinkers) and punish the wicked (the wrong thinkers). If your mind is not right, then the law of attraction will bring corrective lessons until you learn that a tree without strong roots is doomed to die. This is why as a race, we experience evil, because we have allowed error to invade our minds and the law of attraction brings it into existence.
This blog is about my journey to tap into this Power, to become more rooted in God and to unfold the image God within me. Everyone has a unique role to play in life as a unique expression of God, and we were designed to bring blessing, goodness, fullness of life, good health, abundance, love etc. to each other in a divine symphony of love. God created everything and said it was good. Evil is an illusion, a painful one for sure, but an illusion nonetheless. God wants you to be happy, healthy, full of positive experiences, and living an abundant life. All you have to do is realize it in your mind, root yourself in God and God's immutable laws, and wait for the demonstration. The Kingdom of God is within you. This is the power we have, and the power I claim in Christ.

ReplyDelete" when we said to the angels: 'prostrate yourselves before adam,' they all prostrated themselves, except Iblis, who said: 'shall I prostrate to him whom you have created from clay? Dear Dave,
I saw your announcement on Endtimes and I thought maybe its a good idea to leave you a comment. We have been together on that blog for a long time and we have had many discussions on this new wave of spirituality issue which is not just affecting and has affected Christianity but also Islam and from its emergence Judaism.
I am a Muslim, so I leave you some verses of Holy Quran on that matter. As you see according to Quran, the threat is absolutely real and as one reads those verses realizes that Quran's explanation of Evil is NOT an illusion. Quran describes evil as a portrayal of a physically, intellectually and ontologically active being that has a detailed presence and its aimed to root out humanity by misleading it mainly through persuasion. Its an existence that talks, has even descendants and is watchful of humanity as it only has the power to persuade and NO MORE AUTHORITY according to holy Quran. Therefore, as holy Quran puts it into perspective, its like as real as the sun of the sky. My point is this: its gonna be a mistake to think of this creature, as an illusion because its there and it will be there until the end of the time. The astonishment though, I think is this:
" and when satan made their deeds seem fair to them and said: no-one of mankind can conquer you this day, for i am your protector. but when the armies came in sight of one another, he took flight, saying: lo! i am guiltless of you. lo! i see that which ye see not. lo! i fear God. and God is severe in punishment. " -Holy Quran SPOILS OF WAR (48)
Dave, it seems that this creature is even more aware of its foot soldiers on whats really going on!!
Hope this helps.
Regards,
Ali.
Thanks for visiting the blog Ali and leaving a comment,
ReplyDeleteI think we are saying the same thing. I often wonder if you and I have had disagrements in thought because of language nuances, but anyhow, you stated:
"Quran describes evil as a portrayal of a physically, intellectually and ontologically active being that has a detailed presence and its aimed to root out humanity by misleading it mainly through persuasion."
How can one persuade except to convince or "hypnotize" the mind of an individual to believe something which is false? Therefore, as I state in my article, the true battlefield is in the mind of each human being. I did not say that evil was not real in the sense that we as humans really don't experience evil, and that others don't participate in evil. It is real in that sense, and others do participate in evil. Unfortunately, evil effects all of us. But, and I think we agree here, there is only one God, and God is inifinte goodness, love, mercy, justice. Therefore, evil cannot exist, because if evil exists as a real ontological force separate from God, then we must admit there is another God, a God of evil, and that is Dualism. Therefore, evil is an illusion, a phantom, a creation of the mind. Its followers have believed a lie, have allowed their minds to be corrupted by lies and falsehoods and there lies and falsehoods manifest in our world as real events. Jesus said that Satan is the father of lies, a liar from the beginning.
I have always loved this verse from the Koran because it is so full of incredible symbolis meaning.
when we said to the angels: 'prostrate yourselves before adam,' they all prostrated themselves, except Iblis, who said: 'shall I prostrate to him whom you have created from clay? What do you think?'
This is the root of illusion, humans and other beings in the universe do not want to accept reality as it is and create their own through pride, arrogance, and rebellion. Such a posiiton cannot stand, it will crumble under the weight of its own contraqdictions.
Dear Dave,
ReplyDeleteThe same verses of under discussion, shed light to your "Dualism" contra:
They show how Satan had REAL existence in heaven! even before creation of human being! In fact, if you are interested I can provide you with number of verses that clearly show by the time our God created us, Satan along with angels were there already in heaven (probably even watching many things) until a point that Satan was told to prostrate to God's new creation: Adam.
You see, Quranic explanation, doesn't describe Satan as an evil, till the point that he disobeys God and refuses to prostrate to Adam. From that point onwards God in Holy Quran, names him the REBEL.
What does all these show Dave? First this shows that by the time of human creation, Angels, Jins (another creations where Satan is of their family according to Quran) were already there in heaven! Angels prostrated, evil didn't. Isn't it a clear sign of a true & REAL ontological existence of a creation alive called Satan or evil?
Second, as you see Quran's citation of this story creates dualism NOT at all. Yess...God is inifinte goodness, love, mercy, justice but evil had a choice to choose and he chose to be the rebel against God. And there is only one God. No contradiction, only another sign of love from our God who even gave free choice to Satan or evil !
Therefore, based on what I have read from holy Quran, I disagree with your analogy of evil as an illusion. But I do agree that evil CREATES illusion for human's mind (or heart according to HQ).
For all this I can provide you with exact verses if you were interested and I apologize for my bad English since I have come from a non-Latin language.
Regards,
Ali.
Thanks again Ali, good to hear from you,and thanks agian for posting. Your english is great, I wish I could read and write in more than one language!
ReplyDeleteYou could provide the verses if you like, but we are saying mostly the same things. Yes, humans and other entities in the universe have free will, however, free will still cannot make evil a real substance. Let me give you an example:
Say I am a classroom teacher and I tell my students that I want them to clean up the room before the end of the day, and I leave it to their "free will" to do so, I will probably find that many of them chose not to do it, and the room will still be a mess. However, if I use my authority as a teacher, and oversee the cleaning of the room, it will most likely get done the way I want. In each case, I anticipated a certian outcome, however because of my students free will, it may or may not happen unless I choose to really make sure it does. However, the classroom remains unchanged, other than being messy or clean, the children do as well, they still have free will and can exercies it as they see fit. Nothing ontologically has changed, just the outcome based upon the use of power and persuasion.
The same goes for God. God gives creatures free will and expects a certian outcome: goodness becuase that is the way they were made. However, they often choose to exercise their free will against the creators wishes, and bring great sorrow, misery, turmoil, death, etc into their lives, things which we term as "evil" of course, because they are. However, the essential nature of creation remains unchanged. God is still good. Creation still remains good, even in the midst of the turmoil. Evil is an effect of free choice, one which effects the life of the human (and the Jinn) but not creation itself. Evil is an effect of free choice, but without creatures who can choose it has no legs to stand on its own. If humans, and other creaures, stopped choosing evil, it would vanish like a puff of smoke.
Now God, being all powerful, all good, all loving, must have a very good reason for allowing this outcome, and God must expect that the outcome he wants, that is eternal goodness, will in fact happen, otherwise he is evil as well as good, and we know that can never be! So, eventually every creature will renonuce their fascination with the illusion of evil, and this is where the Bible says every knee will bow to Christ. Evil will then appear to us as a bad dream, a nightmare that we were sure was real until the morning sun arrived and convinced us it was just a bad dream. And God will wipe every tear from our eyes.
Dave thanks again,
ReplyDeleteThe point of importance is that God isn't expecting anything. Its "WE" that are expecting. If God has an expectation, then he can not be a God! Since, he has to be looking for some sort of fulfillment for his expectation, thus he becomes an 'in need' entity. Quran teaches us that, the destiny of this journey of life is for us 'to realize' not for God's realization, because God is the all knower and he knows it all till the end. Now in this journey of "Realization", how come free will can not make Satan a real existence, where Satan is the one who hopes to take the control of human's bridle??
Let me sort out my reasoning as the following:
I believe Satan is a real existence, a creature if I may refer, whom has been given a GRANT BY GOD to persuade humanity into wrong-doing - according to Quran. But the same God in HQ has mentioned that not everybody will obey Satan. Only those who listen to him (and favors his words), will fail. Those who don't favor his words and instead listen to God's word, will be given a reward because of their patience in life to stay in the course of God. Now where is God's goodness then?
God's goodness is where he sends down the scriptures. Those who follow the scriptures would distinguish & prevail Satan's traps, those who don't...well I guess we know what happens.
Are we still in a same page? I think I have been talking about the cause (Satan as an existence) and you have been writing about the effect, (a bad dream). But they are so interconnected aren't they?
Perhaps we are in the same book, if not the same page?
ReplyDeleteOk, so let me respond to your first point about expectation, and its a very good point indeed!
My story was meant to illustrate, it is a metaphor, so of course it cannot express the fullness of God. Sorry for the limitation.
God's expectation will be fullfilled, and is being fullfilled even though we live with the effects of evil. Nothing can frustrate God. God gave creatures free will knowing that, eventually, everything will turn out exactly as God planned. No problems in God's mind, everything will be restored in Christ. When it happens is up to us, and what we believe, and how we put our beliefs into practice in our lives. If we continue to think that evil has power, it will continue to manifest in our lives, holding us hostage to its power. If we instead meditate on the power, goodnes, mercy, and inifinte power of God, we will bring that goodness, power, love, and life into our existence. There are numerous examples of this in Judaism, and Christianity. I am not qualified to speak on Islam in this regard Ali, but I sense that there are examples as well, like the habit of prayer daily, facing towards the East, the intentional prayer while walking around the Kaaba in Mecca. Some examples from the Bible: Elisha instructed Naaman to bath in the Jordan seven times to cure his leprosy, and it happened. Jesus on numerous occasions told people that their faith healed them, not him, but their faith. Why would he say this unless the person being healed had a role to play? God is powerful enough to do this on his own, why do we need to be involved, unless we are somehow connected and therefore integral to the plan? So you see, ones attitude and involvment makes a difference, and easily dispatches the so-called power of evil.
As far as the cause of evil, as a Christian I are not required to believe Satan is the cause, or is more than a symbol. Having said that, I do believe Satan could exist, and I believe that the greatest lie Satan told is not that he does not exist, but that he is powerful enough to fight against God. Have you ever asked yourself why, if Satan exists and is so powerful, he has to fool and decieve in order to get folks on his side? Why do the elites of this world form secret societies and worhip darkness in secret? Because the numan mind and heart are the true battlefields, otheriwse they could simply use their power to achieve their goals, regardless of what we think or believe.
If people wake up and realize how powerful they are, and how impotent the wicked and their phantom god are, then the Kingdom of God will come in a lightning flash, and nothing will ever be the same!

ReplyDelete" And when thy lord said unto the angels: lo! i am about to place a viceroy in the earth, they said: wilt thou place therein one who will do harm therein and will shed blood, while we, we hymn thy praise and sanctify thee? he said: surely i know that which ye know not.
....
and when we said unto the angels: prostrate yourselves before adam, they fell prostrate, all save iblis. he demurred through pride, and so became a disbeliever. and we said: o adam! dwell thou and thy wife in the garden, and eat ye freely thereof where ye will; but come not nigh this tree lest ye become wrong-doers. but satan caused them to deflect therefrom and expelled them from the state in which they were; and we said: fall down, one of you a foe unto the other! there shall be for you on earth a habitation and provision for a time. then adam received from his lord words, and he relented toward him. lo! he is the relenting, the merciful. we said: go down, all of you, from hence; but verily there cometh unto you from me a guidance; and whoso followeth my guidance, there shall no fear come upon them neither shall they grieve. but they who disbelieve, and deny our revelations, such are rightful peoples of the fire. they will abide therein. " -Holy Quran (The Cow, 29~36)
I put an emphasis on some phrases to show you that we already have received wake-up calls. But many of us refused to respond to them or refused to believe in them as serious as we had to: in Torah, Zabur, Bible, Quran.
Dave, there is only one road map & that is our God's one. No other path can wake people up. Not even a new one! Since human essence is unchangeable.
Ali, what is your opinion of the Persian Sufi Rumi? I offer two sources for his teachings, which is why I say we are saying the same things:
ReplyDeleteThe general theme of Rumi's thought, like that of other mystic and Sufi poets of Persian literature, is essentially that of the concept of tawhīd – union with his beloved (the primal root) from which/whom he has been cut off and become aloof – and his longing and desire to restore it.
Union with the Divine:
The Masnavi weaves fables, scenes from everyday life, Qur’anic revelations and exegesis, and metaphysics into a vast and intricate tapestry. Rumi is considered an example of Insan-e Kamil — Perfect Man, the perfected or completed human being. In the East, it is said of him that he was "not a prophet — but surely, he has brought a scripture".
The use of prayer and meditation to reach for and discover the divine within:
Rumi believed passionately in the use of music, poetry, and dance as a path for reaching God. For Rumi, music helped devotees to focus their whole being on the divine, and to do this so intensely that the soul was both destroyed and resurrected. It was from these ideas that the practice of "whirling" dervishes developed into a ritual form. His teachings became the base for the order of the Mevlevi which his son Sultan Walad organized. Rumi encouraged samāʿ, listening to music and turning or doing the sacred dance. In the Mevlevi tradition, samāʿ represents a mystical journey of spiritual ascent through mind and love to the Perfect One. In this journey, the seeker symbolically turns towards the truth, grows through love, abandons the ego, finds the truth, and arrives at the Perfect. The seeker then returns from this spiritual journey, with greater maturity, to love and to be of service to the whole of creation without discrimination with regard to beliefs, races, classes, and nations[citation needed].
The denial of Dualism:
Tawhid (Arabic: توحيد tawḥīd "doctrine of Oneness [of God ]"; also transliterated Tawheed and Tauheed) is the concept of monotheism in Islam[1]. It holds God (Arabic: Allah) is one (wāḥid) and unique (ahad).[2]
The Qur'an asserts the existence of a single and absolute truth that transcends the world; a unique, independent and indivisible being, who is independent of the entire creation.[3] The indivisibility of God implies the indivisibility of God's sovereignty which, in turn, leads to the concept of a just, moral and coherent universe, as opposed to an existential and moral chaos. Similarly, the Qur'an rejects the duality of God arguing that both good and evil generate from God's creative act and asserting that the evil forces have no power to create anything. Islamic theology rejects the doctrine of the Trinity where "the one God exists in three Persons and one substance, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit" as believed in mainstream Christianity and professed in the Nicene Creed. God in Islam is a universal god, rather than a local, tribal or parochial one—is an absolute, who integrates all affirmative values and brooks no evil.

ReplyDelete" and as to the poets, those who go astray follow them. Do you not see that they wander about bewildered in every valley? and that they say that which they do not do, except those who believe and do good and remember God much, and defend themselves after they are oppressed; and they who act unjustly shall know to what final place of turning they shall turn back " -Holy Quran -THE POETS- 224~227
Dave,
As a person brought up in the exposures of Rumi's pieces, from high school to family tea parties and even national TV in Iran where they read Rumi along musical performances, I have passed this "past point of talking" that he indeed was a false prophet!
What Rumi says, doesn't matter for me. His descriptions of Insane-Kamel is an utter nonsense, when you compare it to holy Quran (a divine scripture) in the same matter.
Its true, Quran rejects the concept of trinity but let me tell you this, for the sake of objectivity, we have to make a distinction between Islamic theology and Koran's citations. Islamic theology has been influenced very much by modern Pharisee'ism. In fact, contradictions have shown that Islamic theology is Koranic NOT AT ALL !
Therefore, if we are supposed to enter this domain of Islamic theology, then we are entering to the hand-written arena of 'bewildering' and not divine source of real knowledge. Rumi and the Pharseestic cult of Sufi'ism are of those "wander about bewildered in every valley" people.
We have to make a choice somewhere Dave, Hand-made or original? The choice affects the discourse.
Fair enough. I suppose then we have to agree to disagree at this point Ali. I appreciate the discourse, thank you.
ReplyDeleteMe too. Thanks for the time.
